What a blind cat teaches you about love

It starts by leaving a light on at night

The quiet yellowed glow of a lamp

In the corner of a bedroom

Married with the sound of meows at 3am

And 4am

And 5am

When she gets lost in the darkness and can’t

Find her way back to bed.

You get up; searching

Following the noise that happens more

And more

And more

Until you spot her at the bottom of the steps

Confused and looking for comfort.

She finds the empty space in your arms

Temporarily filling it

Because you both know that some day

That emptiness will be permanent —

But for now, she reminds you that

The moonlight can have just as much love

As the daytime.
