2016
I don’t have any photos of 2016
And hardly any memories because
That was the year I started therapy
And got diagnosed as bipolar;
I was told that it wasn’t all in my head.
But it was
In my head
Because my head was the problem
And the solution was to write down all of
The things that had been sitting in there
For years.
I wrote a book and it was about sadness and
Then I wrote another about pain
And one about grief until
I got to writing stories about joy and
Quiet rebellion and whimsy
With animal friends who don’t care if
It’s all in your head
In my head
In someone’s head that is new to the
Sadness pain grief joy quiet rebellion whimsy
And then they feel
Something from 2016 that
We can share the weight of.
Stories grow best when shared.
